Memorial Day

Posted by on May 31, 2010 at 2:50 pm.

Memorial Day is a day made to honor those who sacrificed their lives in service of our country. It was officially proclaimed in 1868 by General John Logan: http://www.usmemorialday.org/order11.html     Hopefully, we treat our veterans with more respect than our elitist run government does. Henry Kissinger refers to military men as “dumb, stupid animals to be used” as pawns for foreign policy: http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2003/06/266114.shtml  Let’s take a look at the sacrifices currently being made by our servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan. There have been 4,378 killed, 37,280 wounded and 48,272 servicemen and women medically evacuated due to injury and disease. Of the 508,152 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans in the VA system, 243,685 are being treated for mental health issues. According to the Department of Defense 72,000 of Iraq and Afghanistanmay have suffered brain injuries from bomb blasts. These are huge sacrifices being made by our military. Sacrifices which have pushed many soldiers to the point of suicide. Everyday there are an average of 5 suicide attempts made by U. S. soldiers: http://www.alternet.org/story/147042/10_things_we_must_remember_on_memorial_day With some veterans in and out of the war zone so many times (I have heard of some troops encountering 6 and 7 tours of duty) the suicide rate is no surprise. Let’s all say a prayer for our military, and pray our government ends the fiasco in Iraq and Afghanistan.
